WSET SAN FRANCISCO & NAPA COURSE SCHEDULE

Our wine courses are serious and challenging. They are designed for both members of the wine trade and consumers who want to greatly expand their knowledge of wine. Three levels of study are currently available. The classes are a progression, beginning with Intermediate Certificate, then Advanced, and followed by Diploma. Those with an already extensive knowledge of wine can bypass Intermediate and begin with the Advanced Certificate, however, all those interested in Diploma must first obtain the Advanced Certificate.

SAN FRANCISCO & NAPA

WSET Level 2 - Intermediate Certificate
The WSET Level 2 Course (formerly the Intermediate Certificate) is a great way for anyone who works in wine, wants a career in the wine industry or has a serious interest in the subject to deepen their knowledge. This course requires no previous wine studies. Level 2 covers the wines and spirits of the world in 6 classes, followed by a one-hour multiple choice examination. The course focuses on how to professionally taste wine, the factors that influence style, quality and price, and goes into depth on the major grape varieties and wine types. Wine tasting is a part of every session with over 40 wines tasted over the two days of class.

Class is held at the Holiday Inn, 1500 Van Ness in San Francisco.

Cost is $750 - includes wine, study packs, exam and all materials.

WSET Level 3 - Advanced Certificate

The WSET Level 3 Course (formerly called the Advanced Certificate) is one of the most globally recognized achievements in the wine industry. This newly revised 15-session course provides an in-depth examination of every major world wine region, and the viticultural and winemaking trends that affect wine style, quality and price. Systematic wine tasting is a part of every session, with over 90 wines tasted in the course. The Advanced Certificate is geared towards wine professionals or people interested in entering the wine industry and is taught in every major city in the US and across the world. Consumers with a serious interest in wine will also enjoy this course, as it is interactive and customized to individual class dynamics and interests. Students who successfully pass a final examination are entitled to the title “WSET Certified.”

The San Francisco class has already begun. The next class is TBD.

Napa class begins August 13 at Maisonry Napa Valley, 6711 Washington St, Yountville and meets over 16 Tuesdays from 7pm-9pm.

Cost is $1,450 and includes everything - wine, study packs, exam and all materials.

ONLINE CLASSES

WSET Level 2 - Online Intermediate Certificate
The Intermediate Certificate online course follows a 5 week study program with set start and finish dates as follows:

Week 1 - Factors Influencing Wine Style, Quality & Price, Sales & Service, Responsible Drinking
Week 2 - Key Grape Varieties
Week 3 - Regional, Quality & Stylistic Labeling Terms, Food & Wine Matching
Week 4 - Sparkling Wines, Sweet Wines, Spirits & Liqueurs
Week 5 - Review and Mock Exam

Each week consists of a series of online activities, often based around group discussion, with an online tutor allocated to guide the students’ studies. A timed feedback test is provided at the end of each week for students to practice for the exam and assess their understanding of that week’s topics. Group tasting activities are also provided to familiarize students with the Systematic Approach to Tasting at Intermediate level.
When the course is over the student arranges with us to take the actual Intermediate 1 hour exam.

WSET Level 3 - Online Advanced Certificate

The Advanced Certificate online course follows a 16 week study program with set start and finish dates as follows:

Weeks 1 & 2 - Viticulture, Winemaking & Labeling, Sales & Service, Responsible Drinking
Weeks 3 & 4 - France 1 (Burgundy, Alsace, Bordeaux and South-West France)
Weeks 5 & 6 - France 2 (Loire, Rhone and Southern France), Germany & Central Europe
Weeks 7 & 8 - Italy, Southern Europe & the Mediterranean (Spain, Portugal and Greece)
Weeks 9 & 10 - North America, South America, South Africa
Weeks 11 & 12 - Australasia, Sparkling Wines
Weeks 13 & 14 - Fortified Wines, Spirits & Liqueurs
Weeks 15 & 16 - Review, Mock Multiple-Choice Examination
During the program the student arranges with us to attend a scheduled class in tasting technique.

Each 2 week online block consists of a series of activities, often based around group discussion, with an online tutor allocated to guide the students’ studies. A timed multiple-choice feedback test is provided at the end of each block for students to practice for the exam and assess their understanding of that week’s topics. 3 short answer style feedback assignments are provided for submission at the ends of week 4, 8 and 12. Group tasting activities are also provided to familiarize students with the Systematic Approach to Tasting at Advanced level.
When the course is over the student arranges with us to take the actual Advanced 2 hour, 15 minute exam. The exam consists of 2 blind wines, 50 multiple choice questions and several short answer questions.

Online Spirits Professional Certificate

The Spirits Professional online course follows a 5 week study program with set start and finish dates as follows:

Weeks 1 - Production and Markets, Sales & Service, Responsible Drinking
Weeks 2 - Grain-based Spirits
Weeks 3 - Fruit-based Spirits, Vegetable-based Spirits
Weeks 4 - Flavored Spirits, Liqueurs
Weeks 5 - Review and Mock Exam

Each week consists of a series of online activities, often based around group discussion, with an online tutor allocated to guide the students’ studies. A timed feedback test is provided at the end of each week for students to practice for the exam and assess their understanding of that week’s topics. Group tasting activities are also provided to familiarize students with the Systematic Approach to Tasting Spirits.
When the course is over the student arranges with us to take the actual Spirits 1 hour exam.
